Annie Doris (Kress) Finkel

October 29, 1926 — October 9, 2017

Annie Doris Finkel, 90 of Bolton and Stow, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2017, at LifeCare Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton, MA after a period of declining health.

Doris, as she preferred to be called, is survived by her children, Karin Adler and her husband Dave, Philip Finkel, Audrey Earley and her husband Tom, Douglas Finkel and his wife Tu, and Amy Hastings and her husband Ed; her grandchildren, Eric and Keith Earley, Lily and Sam Adler, Emily and Julia Finkel, and Thomas and William Hastings. She was predeceased by her parents Karl and Elisabeth (Wolff) Kress and her twin brother Gregor Kress.

Doris was born in New York City, the daughter of two German immigrants. Her family later returned to Hamburg, Germany where she grew up. She was a talented gymnast in Germany and after WWII, Annie returned back to New York City aboard the “Ernie Pyle” troop transport ship in November of 1947. Doris eventually settled in Englewood, NJ, where she raised her family and later moved to Ocala, FL, where she lived for over twenty years after she retired. In her later years she moved to Bolton, MA to be near her family and has remained in the area ever since.

Doris practiced gymnastics throughout her life. She was an active member and proud participant of the Turnverein Gymnastics club in New York for many years. She also loved the ocean and the outdoors. She especially enjoyed spending time visiting New York City, walking at Robert Moses State Park in Fire Island, hiking at Bear Mountain in New York, skiing and taking photographs. Annie worked in several nursing homes, as a Nurse’s Aide, and was a talented seamstress as well.

A period of visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St, Hudson, MA; followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later time.
