Adele "Dolly" Harkness, 87, of Hudson, MA, died peacefully at her residence Tuesday, May 16, 2006. She was the wife of the late Robert Harkness who died in 2000. She was born in Shirley, MA, daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Belshunas) Petkauskos.
She is survived by her daughter; Patricia Lange of Peterborough, NH, her nephews Peter Petkauskos of Lancaster, Victor Petkauskos of Osterville, Michael Petkauskos of Southport, NC, David Petkauskos of Shrewsbury and her niece Rita Lynn Olszewski of Chester, NH. She is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary, Victor and Peter Petkauskos.
Dolly was a graduate of Saint Michael's Academy class of 1936, a member of the Hudson Catholic Alumni Association and was active with the local Girl Scout's organization. She was employed by the former Hudson Dress Shoppe on Main Street in Hudson for forty six years as a sales clerk and sold Avon Products for some twenty five years. She was a member of the Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson and the Hudson Senior Center where she was the leader of the Walking Club. Her love of children linked her to the First Grade Pen Pal Program directed by Mary Ann Fitzgerald at the Mulready School in Hudson. She was mostly known for her tireless effort in raising funds through the annual Hudson Meals on Wheels Walkathon sponsored by the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) Meals on Wheels Program. Dolly raised a record $6,182 for the Meals on Wheels in 2005. Mary Wila, Framingham Meals on Wheels director, was quoted at this time "we count on Dolly each year" she also added "Dolly collects far and away more than volunteers in all the other 14 Metro West towns we serve." Although Dolly was slowed down by her illness in 2006 her fundraising activities continued when she launched a letter campaign in February for the walkathon. Dolly enjoyed gardening, puzzles, along with baking and cooking for her family and friends. She was a caring, generous friend to all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749 Friday, May 19, 2006 with a funeral mass at 9:00 a.m in Saint Michaels Church 21 Manning street Hudson MA. Calling hours will be Thursday, May 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson.
