Alan Leonard Mungeam

Hudson, MA

Alan L. Mungeam, 88 of Hudson, MA, Passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, after a short illness.

He is the son of the late Leonard and Ruth Mungeam of Berlin, MA. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann (Rimkus) Mungeam, his four daughters, Anna St. James and her husband, Rand, Mary Ann Geary, Sandy Bouchard and her husband John, and Susan Mungeam and her fiancée Chris Marsicano, and his brothers Lawrence Mungeam and his wife Alice Mungeam, and Lee Mungeam and his wife Vera Mungeam. He also leaves ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son David Mungeam and his sisters Greta Norton and Virginia Wheeler.

As the youngest child of five, Alan was affectionately known as “Babe” to his family. While growing up on a farm in South Berlin, he attended one-room schools, joined the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed summer vacations on Cape Cod at the cottages his father built. He graduated from Hudson High School with high honors and while still attending school, began working as a draftsman at Lapointe Machine Tool Company. He later joined the Navy where he served during the Korean War as a technician aboard ship and sang in the Acapella choir. On the GI Bill, he attended college and earned an associate degree from Worcester Junior College. He was later employed by Raytheon, where he worked for 33 years, eventually becoming a Section Manager and Principal Engineer. He continued to work part time after retirement, including helping his daughter with her manufacturing company. Alan was an athlete. He ran the Boston Marathon twice, hiked Mount Washington on numerous occasions and skied Tuckerman’s ravine. Alan also studied oil painting and enjoyed reading.

He married Barbara in 1957 and they lived together in Hudson, MA. He was an active parent, coaching his son’s baseball team, running road races with his daughters, and taking the family skiing, hiking, and camping. Later, Alan enjoyed traveling with Barbara yearly to Florida, exploring the east coast and stopping at Fredericksburg and Jekyll Island along the way. Together they also enjoyed numerous bus tours to Quebec City, Bar Harbor, Atlantic City, Cape May, and Alan’s favorite destination, Niagara Falls. Alan has written that “Living a moral, caring and compassionate life with leisure travel and time for enjoyment and friends is a life well lived.” He has certainly accomplished that.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Tighe-Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Funeral service and burial in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA will be held privately.
