Alan M. Peterson, 76, of Berlin, MA, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, after a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer. He is now resting peacefully with his son, Timothy, who predeceased him in December 2022.
Alan was the son of the late Walter and Lois (Schleusner) Peterson, born in Malden, Washington and raised in Gresham, Oregon. After high school graduation, Alan enlisted in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts with an honorable discharge after 4 years of service. After discharge from the Army, Alan was employed with Patriot Ambulance and Marlborough Hospital before starting his 20 year career with the U.S. Postal Service serving the Southborough, Marlborough and Hudson communities.
Alan married his soulmate, Vicki Ann (Downing) Peterson in 2002. They made Cazenovia, NY their home until 2016 when they returned to Massachusetts to join Timothy and his wife, Amy (MacLaren) Peterson in Berlin.
In his retirement, you could find Alan working outside in his gardens or casting a fishing line with his son. Planning a trip by plane, train or automobile with Vicki brought him much joy. You might also have found Alan working on his model railroad or reading the latest novel.
In addition to his wife and daughter-in-law, Alan is survived by his grandchildren Katelyn and Benjamin Peterson, Ashley (Felice) Pierce, all of Hudson, Maxine Baker of Berlin, and Richard Baker of Clinton. He also leaves his sister, Jody Allen of Sandy, Oregon, and Barbara White of Lapine, Oregon, and a dear friend Shellie Stearns of Cazenovia, NY. He will always be “Uncle Al” to Haylee, Rylee, Peyton, Jackson, and Brooklynn. He will also be missed by his extended family and numerous close friends. His beloved dog, Emma, will always be waiting at the front door.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Alan’s name to Marlborough Cancer Center at Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough, MA or VNA Hospice and Palliative Care Fund Development Office, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
