Alfred “Al” R. Chiasson, 81 of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Christopher House Nursing Home in Worcester, surrounded by his family.
Al was born and raised in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, a son of the late Victor H. and Mary O. Chiasson. He moved to Waltham in 1950 and later married the love of his life Jean M. Muise with whom he shared 55 years of love.
Al moved to Hudson in 1961 and lived in town until 1984 when he and his family moved to Vermont until 2014. He owned and operated Colonial Market in Hudson and later Al’s Country Store in White River Junction, Vermont. He also owned Chiasson Brothers Drywall with his brother George.
Al was a longtime member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson. He was an avid sports fan and he also enjoyed going for walks, fishing, playing bingo, and scratching lottery tickets. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. As a true family man, Pa was thrilled to hear that he would soon be a great grandpa for the first time this coming June.
Al also received a recognition award from President Ronald Reagan for his 15 years of volunteer service at the Hudson Boys and Girls Club where he spent endless hours building the club’s foundation.
Al is survived by his 5 children, Al Chiasson of Florida, Dan Chiasson and his wife Amy of Marlborough, Paul Chiasson and his wife Beth of Vermont, Claudine McManus and her late husband Gerard of Hudson and Gayle Ripley and her husband Chuck of Marlborough, 11 grandchildren and a stepsister, Barbara Hoyt and her husband Dwight of Toronto, Canada. In addition to his beloved wife Jean M. (Muise) Chiasson and his parents, Al was also predeceased by his daughter, Maureen Chiasson and his brother, George Chiasson.
The family would love to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Christopher Heights/Christopher House who welcomed him into their hearts.
