Alice Mabel (Bruen) Garnett, 87, of Hudson and Orleans, died on Thursday, March 13 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.
She was married for 66 years to the late Charles Edward Garnett, who died in 2006.
Born in Hudson, Alice was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mabel (Kline) Bruen. She resided in Hudson and later in Orleans on Cape Cod before moving to Worcester in 2002.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Jan Garnett Cellucci and her husband, former Massachusetts Governor and U.S. Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci of Hudson; her sisters Mary Jane Milak of Stow and Judith Marcheterre of Hudson; her brother Charles Bruen of Minnesota; her sister-in-law Gladys Orr of Colorado; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was the mother of the late Ronald Edward Garnett who died in 1997.
Alice was a devoted wife and mother, an accomplished homemaker, and gracious hostess. She pursued, throughout her life, a love of Asian Art and a talent for decorative painting. Her painted furniture and art work became unique focal points in each of her homes. Alice was a knowledgeable and avid supporter of her husband's business and civic pursuits, her children's professions, her son-in-law's political and diplomatic career, and her grandchildren's many pursuits.
As a resident most recently of Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living and Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Alice was a treasured resident of both communities, valued especially for her warmth, compassion, and indomitable spirit.
A memorial service will be celebrated Friday, March 21, at 3:00 p.m. in Saint Luke's Church, Wood Square, Hudson.
