Alvin Vincent “Al” Hart, II was called to his Lord May 1st, 2021. He passed peacefully at Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh, after managing at home with the care of his wife and family.
Al was born on October 23rd, 1939 in Boston, MA. He was a graduate of Newton High School, attended The University of New Mexico, and graduated from the Doscher Country School of Photography. As a young man, Al accepted Christ as his Savior when his Uncle Charlie shared the gospel with him. He pursued a career in photography and eventually sales, married Maureen in 1967, and was a devoted father to their children.
He looked back fondly on his years spent in New Mexico, where he was an amateur cowboy and rode broncos in local rodeos; he retained his love of horses throughout his life. An avid shooter, he was a lifelong member of the NRA and Ashland Fish & Game Club Pistol Team, participating in many shooting competitions. He deeply enjoyed serving as a judge at the annual Bolton Fair photography competition. Al was a member of Trinity Congregational Church in Bolton for years, and also served the Town of Bolton as an EMT, a position he held dear.
He loved classic cars and driving too fast in them, his country, lemon meringue pie, and most any meal prepared by his accomplished and attentive wife. Ever ready with witty comments, a teller of stories and giver of common sense advice, Al took boundless pride in the achievements (great or small) of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He shared many anecdotes starring his beloved family.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Alvin V. Hart, I and Anne B. Jackson, and his son, Alvin Hart III. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maureen Hart; daughter, Anne-Louise Merrill and her husband, Terry; son, Jason Thornton and his wife, Christine. He also leaves his grandchildren, Sarah Gillingham and husband Andrew; Madeline Litardo and husband Pablo; True, Evelyn, Lilian, Julia, Irene, and Lydia Merrill; Luke, Sophia, and Ava Thornton; and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Braeden Gillingham. Additionally, brother, Bradbury Hart and wife Elaine; sister, Penelope Johnson and husband Stephen, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. We will all lovingly remember Al/Dad/Pa and treasure our memories of him.
His life will be celebrated at a family service in NC, and he will be laid to rest beside his beloved son at South Cemetery in Bolton, MA. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Lifecare hospice home online at transitionslifecare.org.
