Andrew W. McConnell, (The Sarge), 73, of Deerfield Beach Florida, formerly of Hudson, MA, died on March 20th at North Broward Medical Center in Florida.
Andrew was born in Cambridge, MA and raised by his mother, the late Louise (Bergen) McConnell and his father, the late Andrew McConnell. He has resided in Florida the past 27 years with his late wife Dorothy. Andrew served in the United States Marine Corp as a Vietnam Veteran until being honorably discharged in 1966. He was employed for a short time with the Polaroid Company in Waltham MA until he began his career as a police officer in 1970 with the Hudson Police Dept. In the late 70's early 80's he had a special partner, K-9 Rommel, who worked right beside him. It was the best part of his job he would say, an unconditional bond two partners could ever have. He retired as a Sergeant in 1990 and moved to Florida. Police work was in his blood so he came out of retirement, serving in 2001 as a police Sergeant for the Broward Sheriff Dept. of Lauderdale by the Sea, the Ft Lauderdale Court House, and Sea Ranch Police Dept. in Ft Lauderdale, Florida retiring in 2011. Andrew enjoyed going to Kennedy Space Center to watch the shuttles go up. He also enjoyed photography and his crime shows as well as spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his three daughters Deborah A.McConnell of Marlborough, Tammy M.Beaulieu and her husband Mark of Coral Springs Fl, Suzette L.Young of Deerfield Beach Fl. He is also survived by his six grandchildren James Drew, Stephanie Drew and her fiancAC. Chris Carlson, Chelsea, Austin, Chandler Beaulieu, Tyler Young and a great grandchild on the way Olivia Hope Carlson.
A memorial service and celebration of Andrew's life will be held Friday May 8th at 11:00 a.m in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetry, Hudson. A calling hour will be held May 8th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m prior to the service at the funeral home.
