Angelo Freitas Viegas, a dedicated individual who devoted his life to hard work and cherished moments with his loved ones, passed away peacefully at the Branches Marlborough. He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 52 years, Genevieve Marie (Monteiro) Viegas, who predeceased him in 2008.
Angelo was born on March 31, 1934, in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal a son of the late Antonio and Maria (Rezendes) Viegas; his upbringing in Santa Maria laid the foundation for a fulfilling life where education and family values were of utmost importance to him. He attended school in his hometown before embarking on a career that would shape his legacy.
Angelo had a diverse career path, starting in construction and later transitioning to become a custodian at DCU until his well-deserved retirement. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in all that he did.
Outside of work, Angelo found joy in various hobbies and interests that brought color to his life. An avid gardener and animal lover, he raised rabbits with care and tended to his gardens with love. Music held a special place in Angelo's heart, and he was known for playing numerous horns in the Portuguese band, showcasing his talent and passion for music. He was also a longtime member of the Hudson Portuguese Club and the Hudson Elks, where he formed lasting connections within the community. Additionally, Angelo took pleasure in making and savoring homemade wine, a skill that brought him closer to those around him.
Described as a quiet individual, Angelo found solace in spending quality time with his family. His gentle nature and love for his family shone brightly through his actions.
Angelo is survived by his son, Robert D. Viegas and his wife Sheila of Hudson; his daughter, Theresa M. Viegas of Hudson; his son, John E. Viegas of Hudson, NH ; his sister, Celeste Chaves of Hudson; his granddaughter, Brittany A. Viegas ; his Great-grandchildren, Gavin Condon, Michaela Orrico, and Brody DeMichele; his siste-in-law, Maria Jose Viegas; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents he was also was predeceased by his brothers, Antonio Viegas and his wife Ceu and Jose Viegas and his grandson, Jason Viegas.
A visitation will be held on May 25th from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St, Hudson, MA. A Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Michael Church on Manning Street, 21 Manning St, Hudson, MA, with interment at Saint Michael Cemetery on Cox Street at 12:00 PM.
Angelo Freitas Viegas will be remembered for his kind soul, unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and the impact he had within the community. May he rest in peace knowing that he touched the hearts of many during his lifetime.
