Anibal John Souza, 95, of Hudson, died Saturday, July 28th at his residence in Hudson. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to the late Antoinette "Toni" (Coito) Souza.
Anibal was born and raised in Marlboro, son of the late Manuel and Emilia (Silva) Sousa. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, First Division "Big Red One", 33rd Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater until being honorably discharged in June of 1946. Anibal has resided in Hudson since 1954 and was employed by the Data General Corp. in Hudson for many years until retiring in 1978. Prior to Data General, he worked for the former Kenworthy Bros. in Westboro and the Entwistle Co. of Hudson. He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club, member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson and enjoyed all types of woodworking and loved to read in his spare time. Anibal truly loved the time he spent with his family and especially enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Spellman and her long time partner, James Eisner, both of Hudson; his sister, Maryann Mutti of Florida and his three grandchildren, John Spellman and his wife Jennifer of Lancaster, Todd Spellman and his wife Lizabeth of Berlin and Raymond Spellman and his wife Jennifer of Clinton. He is also survived by his six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel Sousa of Hudson, Walter Sousa of Florida and Hellen DiLauro of Hudson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 1st at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749
