Antonio Viegas Leandres, 75, of Hudson and Santa Maria, the Azores, Portugal, died Wednesday, Sept. 29th in Santa Maria, the Azores. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elvira C. (Monteiro) Leandres.
Born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores, son of the late Manuel Freitas Leandres and Maria Sousa Viegas, Antonio has spent the last 30 years in Hudson visiting his home in Santa Maria frequently. He was employed as a machinist by Middlesex Research Co. in Hudson for many years and later was employed by S & F Concrete of Hudson until retiring in 1998. He was a member and past President of the Hudson Portuguese Club and was also a member of the former Christ the King Parish in Hudson.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Jose M. Leandres and his wife Sandra, Maria Batista, Alda Meuse and her husband Dave, Linda Leandres and her fiancAC. Kevin Lage, all of Hudson, Dilia Holmes and her husband Chris of Harvard and Gilda Doherty and her husband Patrick of Lancaster. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 14th at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street, Lancaster. Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering following the mass at the Hudson Portuguese Club, 13 Port Street, Hudson from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Services and burial in Santa Maria, the Azores were held on Sunday, Oct. 3rd. Local arrangements are under the direction of: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
