Augustine D. "Gus" Murphy, 91, of Berlin, died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife of 40 years Alice (Grudinski) Murphy of Berlin.
Born in Hudson, MA, he was the son of the late Dennis D. and Mary (Sheehan) Murphy.
He was a highly decorated veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 during which time he participated in the African, European and Middle Eastern campaigns. He was the proprietor of the Murphy Poultry Farm in Berlin working many years on the farm until his retirement. He was a life member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his nephews, Dennis Murphy and his wife Karen Murphy, Daniel Murphy Jr. and his wife Cynthia Murphy and James Murphy and his wife Christine Murphy, all of Hudson and David Grudinski and his wife Jane Grudinski of Merrimack, NH. He is also survived by his great nephews and nieces, Brenna Maguire and her husband Jason, Jason Murphy and his wife Heather, Kevin Murphy and his wife Catherine, Jonathan, Shawn and Caitlin Murphy and Ryan and Mandy Grudinski; his great-great nephew and niece, Colin and Keira Maguire and his sister in law, Agnes Grudinski of Maynard.
He was the brother of the late Rita Burge, Daniel, Maurice and James Murphy.
His funeral will be held from the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc, (www.tighehamilton.com) 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749 Monday, July 9, 2007 with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph's The Good Provider Church, West Street, (RT. 62) in Berlin, MA. There are no calling hours. Burial in Saint Michael's Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
