Barbara M. Cavanagh, 88, of Hudson, died Friday, Oct. 10 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Orin and Myrtle (Lewis) Wheeler and she spent much of her life taking care of her children and others. Later in life, she moved to Port Charlotte, FL with her husband Albert Cavanagh. After his passing in 1991, she obtained her drivers license at the age of 70 and after that the family rarely found her at home. She spent many hours volunteering where ever she was needed, going out to lunch and playing dominoes and cards with her many friends in Florida. Barbara loved traveling with her friends and family and her insatiable appetite for life kept her active; her wonderful knack for story-telling brought characters to life as she recalled memories of long departed relatives and her days as a young girl.
Barbara will be missed by many, many people who enjoyed her gracious and fun-loving company.
She is survived by sons, Wayne Cavanagh of Hudson, Clifford Cavanagh of Marlboro; daughters, Cynthia Cavanagh of Southboro, Lorinda Cavanagh and her husband Roy Blanchard of Westboro; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She also leaves her siblings, Lillian Golding of South Carolina, Leona Ballou of New York, Edith Feeney of Florida and Elmer Wheeler of Massachusetts along with many wonderful friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert H. Cavanagh and sons, Laurence, Kenneth, David; grandson Aaron and her brother Arthur.
Family and friends are invited to join in the celebration of Barbara's life, Sunday, October 19th, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, Route 20, Marlboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to: VNA Care Network & Hospice, for the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Development Office, 5 Federal St. Danvers, MA 01923 or Charity of your choice.
