Barbara A (Boyd) Scott

Barbara Ann (Boyd) Scott passed away peacefully on September 14, 2017 at the age of 89. At the time of her death she was being comforted by loving family both present and in thoughts and prayers.

Barbara was the eldest daughter of George W. and Lucy (Stone) Boyd. Barbara is survived by her sister Clair (Boyd) Johnson.  Her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kirsten Scott and their children, Kimberly, Robert and his wife Caroline, Matthew, and Katherine. Her son, Allan Scott, his late wife Karen and their children Jennifer, her husband Christopher, and Joseph. Her daughter Annette Scott and her son Jake. Also great grandchildren Daniel, CJ and Chase. And many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Barbara was pre-deceased by her brother George Boyd.

Born in Hudson, Barbara graduated from Hudson High School in 1946. She married in 1949 became a dedicated wife and mother and later worked as Head Teller at the Hudson National Bank. Like her mother Lucy, she was active in the Hudson United Methodist Church and loved singing in their choir.  In 1971 she joined the Ecumenical Institute realizing her lifelong dream of becoming a missionary.  In the years she was with EI she traveled both near and far living in places such as Manchester, NH, Miami, FL, the Philippines, India, Hong Kong, Kenya, and Chicago, IL.  She loved to tell stories of all of the places she lived and people she met.

When you met Barbara one of the first things you noticed was her height.  Upon returning from EI, she took a job at Shelley’s Tall Shop.  Shelley’s was revolutionary in selling clothing that actually fit tall women.  Barbara was quickly noticed for both her height and her dedication to her work. She soon moved up the ranks and was moved to a managerial position at the home office in Cincinnati.

To know Barbara was to love her.  She was always smiling and thrilled to see you.  She loved her family and friends with all her heart.  She was also dedicated to the Boston Red Sox and watched every game and kept track of every player’s at bat in a code only she knew.  She loved puzzles and books and always had one of each going and stacks more waiting. Barbara was a wonderful person and she will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday September 19th 1:00 – 2:30 PM at Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home in Hudson.  Services will also be on Tuesday at the Hudson Methodist Church at 3:00 PM with reception to follow at the Hudson Elks Club.

The family would like to thank the nurses, administrators and doctors at the UMass, Metrowest and Tufts hospitals for their dedicated and professional care and efforts in making this a time of peaceful and dignified transition.
