Bruce E. Harris, 79, of Hudson, died Wednesday, April 7th at his home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Bernadette E. (Pitts) Harris of Hudson.
Bruce was born in Watertown, son of the late Bruce and Alice Mae (North) Harris and was raised in Cambridge where he attended local schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force. He has resided in Hudson since 1951 with his wife Bernadette where they raised their family. He was employed as a sheet metal worker for many years for the Worcester Air Conditioning Co. of Ashland until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Hudson V.F.W.; Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 17 of Boston and was a volunteer for many years at the Hudson Food Pantry. Mr. Harris also took great pride as a VNA volunteer handyman, doing many odd jobs for the local elderly in his community. He was a member of Saint Isadore's Parish in Stow and spent 40 plus years as a church usher.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his seven children, George Harris and his wife Stephanie of Southboro, Bruce Harris and his wife Nancy of Marlboro, Suzanne Carmichael, wife of the late William McGrath Jr. and her husband Joseph of Clinton, Paul Harris of Shrewsbury, Russell Harris and his wife Concetta of Sterling, Scott Harris and his wife Suzanne of Wayland and Roxanne Curley and her husband John of Sterling. He is also survived by his sister, Ruby Sonia of West Newton; 19 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alice Sousa of Burlington.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday April 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Isadore Church, 492 Great Road, Stow. Burial with Military Honors will be in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
