Carl A. Schmitt, 53, of Millbury, formerly of Marlboro, died unexpectedly at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester on Monday, March 24th. He was the beloved husband of the late Paula (Carr) Schmitt who died in 1992.
Carl was born in Trenton, NJ, and is survived by his parents, Donald and Eleanor (Seifert) Schmitt of Florida. He was raised in Marlboro where he attended local schools and was a 1979 graduate of Marlboro High School. He has resided in Millbury the past 30 years and was employed as a blasting superintendent the past 18 years by Atlantic Blasting Co. in Milford. He was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Marlboro before moving to Millbury.
Carl was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snow skiing in the winter and water skiing in the summer. He enjoyed taking his dogs for walks in the woods and also looked forward to his frequent trips to Westport, quahogging and clamming along the Westport River. He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time. He was a loving and devoted husband and brother. His presence will be missed by all who knew him, especially by his two sons with whom Carl brought many joyful memories and loving moments throughout their lives.
He is survived by his two sons, Alex Schmitt and Cody Schmitt, both of Millbury; his brother, Paul Schmitt of Mendon; his three sisters, Kathryn Crosby of Westport, Rebecca Owen of Batesville, MS and Laura Davis of Gadsden, AL. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are encouraged to attend a funeral mass on Saturday, April 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect Street, Marlboro. Burial services will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro. There are no services at the funeral home and Carl's arrangements are under the care of: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
