Carla F. Acierno

In loving memory of Carla Fabbian Acierno, who passed away on May 17^th, 2024. She was the devoted wife of Claude H. Acierno for 62 years and mother to her 2 sons Mark (Jodene) and Paul (Linda), grandchildren Dominick, Siena, Katie and Connor and her faithful furry companion, Bandit.

Born June 1938 in Vicenza, Italy, to Maria and Bruno Fabbian, she was raised with her two sisters, Resy and Sophia. During her early years, Carla learned how to endure the trauma of war and the vibrance of life. These two things, along with a strong family unit, really shaped who she was to become in her later years. A graduate of college in Italy, she met a young man who was stationed with the US Air Force in town and soon was swooning across the street at his hotel window while he looked back at her in her dining room window. After a 2 year separation, and multiple letters written, Claude asked for her hand in marriage.

Living in the States, not knowing the language and needing to learn how to cook (her mother was an excellent cook!), Carla figured it out and thrived. They moved to Suffern, NY, to start their family after leaving the Bronx. She used her new language to take her love of teaching to the local school where she taught students the finer points of the beautiful Italian language. Unfortunately, she was unable to get her own kids to learn much, however. Big mistake on their part! She took her desire to learn to the banking industry locally and found a niche – she worked her way up the ranks rapidly, eventually earning the title VP of Commercial Loans with a larger regional bank. She thrived in this environment.

But what Carla was known for by her friends and family were her love of flowers, her cooking and her pool. Everyone waited anxiously for the pool to open every season, because they knew Carla and Claude would be cranking out the stakes and burgers, pasta salads and vegetables from the garden. This was always taking place in the most manicured and beautifully presented flower beds and plantings in the region. And don’t forget the after dinner grappa!

Moving to the Boston area later in life was important to them, the chance to be closer to family. The move was hard but as they always did, Carla and Claude worked as a team as they moved to the next phase of their lives. It was here where Alzheimer’s Disease took hold and took her from us.

Carla was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all. She was a woman of faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Values that we will be eternally grateful for. Carla was a true role model who we will always look up to.

Committal Services and a Celebration of Life for Carla will be celebrated on June 1^st, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA. There are no services at the funeral home. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
