Charles A. Villee, 48, died Wednesday, December 11th at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA.
Charles was born in Boston, MA on August 23, 1965, son of the late Claude A. Villee Jr & Dorothy (Balzer) Villee of Falmouth, MA.
A graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst in 1987, he received his Master's in Education from UMass Amherst in 1988, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Special Education from American International College in 1994. He was a sportswriter for the Grafton News.
Charles was a writer all his life. As a teenager, he wrote articles for the Boston Globe and the Falmouth Enterprise. In the aftermath of an accident that put him in a coma for months and left him mentally impaired, he wrote a book, "Charles: A Full Cycle", describing his recovery. He co-wrote another book, "Images of Africa Abroad", with his friend from Hampshire College, Stanley Macamo.
He regularly participated in day trips, picnics, and other activities of Community Enterprises, an organization that provides supported employment, education, and living services to people with disabilities. During the last four years of his life, he spoke at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) events, as part of their "In Our Own Voice" program. He also spoke as an Ambassador for the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA).
Charles served on the Board of Trustees of Grafton Public Library from 2009 to 2011.
Survivors include his fiancAC.e, Dolores Dulude of South Grafton, MA; his daughter, Abigail E. Villee of Harvard, MA; two brothers, Claude A. Villee III of Hudson, MA and Stephen E. F. Villee of Berlin, NH; his sister, Suzanne C. Villee of Sharon, MA.
A private memorial service is planned for the spring, at a time and place to be determined.
