Clara E. (Tervo) Munroe, 84, of Clinton, MA, formerly of Thompson, CT, Boylston and Berlin, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 2nd at The Corcoran House, in Clinton. The wife of the late Ira H. "Bunny" Munroe, Jr.
Clara was born and raised in Berlin, MA, daughter of the late Wiano V. Tervo and Dorothy F. (Stone) Tervo. She was a graduate of Hudson High School where she was very proud to be a cheerleader. She went on to receive her Registered Nursing Degree at Melrose Hospital and worked as Head Nurse in the OR and helped in the ER at Clinton Hospital for many years. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and canning, crocheting afghans for all her family and friends, she was an avid reader and loved Bingo, working daily on her puzzles, playing word games and attending Art Classes.
She often spoke of her husband and their day trips on his Harley, the enjoyment of many years of camping trips with family and friends, and yearly NASCAR races. She and "Bunny" were both accomplished and award winning square dancers, attending many dances and competitions they truly enjoyed. She will be fondly missed by all who knew her, especially her children and her loving and cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made many friends and always felt like a "Queen" at the Corcoran House where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her children, Karen Modeen Mancinone and her husband Daniel of Bristol, CT; Katherine Schonberg of Grafton, MA; Carleen Pierce of Clinton, MA; Ira H. "Skip" Munroe III and Brenda Costa of Marlboro, MA; Susan Cobane and her husband George of Sutton, MA; and Clara "Ellie" Munroe of Southbridge, MA. She was predeceased by her son David W. Munroe, granddaughter Krista M. Schonberg, and brother, Wiano Tervo. She is also survived by her sister, Sylvia Wheeler of Berlin, brothers, Robert Tervo of Berlin and Richard Tervo of Northborough; her 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; along with many other nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to personally thank all of her caregivers at the UMass Memorial Clinton and Lake Ave Campuses and especially the Corcoran House for the love, kindness, and patience shown to her while under their care.
A service and celebration of Clara's life will be held on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours for will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
