David Leo McCarthy

David Leo McCarthy, 81, of Berlin, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.

David was born in Marlborough on September 30, 1940, son of the late Francis and Mary (McCabe) McCarthy. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1959 and Northeastern University in 1977.

Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1966, later serving in the Massachusetts Air National Guard for twenty two years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He also worked for Raytheon Company for thirty two years, retiring in 2001. After retiring, he and the love of his life, his wife Patricia, enjoyed spending the winters in Venice, Florida.

David was a joy to be around and will be remembered by those closest to him for his corny, bad dad jokes. He always looked forward to his Sunday night FaceTime dates with his daughter and adored granddaughters.

In his younger years, David was an avid water and snow skier.  He was an original member of the Fort Meadow Water Ski Club in Marlboro, performing in many water ski shows in the New England area and was well known for his barefoot waterskiing. He also played hockey throughout his whole life, including competing in the Senior Olympics in Buffalo, NY. He also loved watching the Bruins play.

He was a member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks, The American Legion, AMVETS of Hudson and the Moose Lodge of Marlboro.

He is survived by his adoring wife Patricia of 23 years, his loving daughter Kaitlyn (McCarthy) Barte and her husband Brett, and his cherished granddaughters McKenna and Malley. He also leaves behind Patricia’s daughter Patrice and her husband Andrew D’Amore, daughter Jennifer Grant and her partner Robert Russo, grandchildren and great grandson. He also leaves brothers Paul of Hudson, Leo and his wife Arlene of North Fort Myers, Florida and Richard and his wife Denise of Litchfield, NH, along with many nieces and nephews.

There are no services currently at the request of the family. A private celebration of his life will be held this summer at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation themmrf.org.
