Dominic “Dom” J. Ziane, 96, of Worcester, formerly of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at home, with his family by his side after a period of declining health. His beloved wife Audrey (Jones) Ziane predeceased him in 1989. He is survived by two children: Dominic J. Ziane, Jr. and his wife Sue and Marie Troio and her husband Lenny; his sister Viola Bairos; a grandson Joseph Ziane and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Joseph Ziane and sisters: Gilda O’Callaghan, Florence Simarano, Natalie Alexander, Ann Trudeau and Mary Campos.
Dom was born in Hudson, MA, on March 22, 1924, a son of two Italian immigrants, Bonifacio and Maria (Di Buono) Ziane. He was raised in Hudson, where he graduated from high school. After high school he proudly served his nation in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945 during WWII. Dom earned the rank of sergeant and saw combat in the battles of Northern Solomons, New Guinea and Luzon and earned several commendations including the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 3 service stars, Philipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star and the Distinguished Unit Badge. After returning home from service, he began a career as a Mail Carrier for the United States Post Office.
A lifelong Hudson resident, Dom was very active in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Hudson-Concord Elks Lodge #959, Disabled American Veterans of Marlborough, Hudson AMVETS, Hudson V.F.W. Post 1027 and the American Legion Post 100. Dom also was an avid painter who created many beautiful acrylic and oil paintings. All who knew Dom will miss him dearly.
All are invited to his visiting hours on Saturday March 20, 2021 from 9-11am in the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St, Hudson, MA 01749 with a funeral service to begin at 11am in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors to follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dom’s memory may be made to: Veteran’s Inc, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
