Hudson, MA
Donald A. Bacon, 86, died on Thursday, September 22, 2011 after battling a long illness. Don was born in Waltham, MA on May 13, 1925 to the late Howard and Ethel Bacon. As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper during WWII. After being discharged from service, he settled in Sudbury, MA and worked as a Sudbury police officer. He went on to establish his dry cleaning business, Sudbury Cleaners, in 1949. He owned the family business until 1978. Don and his family moved to Hudson, MA in 1966 where he worked at Aubuchon Hardware for 25 years and resided until the onset of his illness. Don was never able to sit still for very long and eagerly offered a hand to anyone in need. He loved excitement and loved to be busy. He loved to collect trains, complete puzzles, recite countless jokes, but, most of all; he loved his wife, four children and grandchildren. Unlike most, he had the rare ability to live life to its fullest and to also chronicle it. He possessed a candor that emphasized his sincerity and generosity, and the profound ability to bring laughter into any situation. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather and individual whose death will be mourned by all who knew him. Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie Bacon of Hudson, his four children, Donna Squires and her husband, Richard, of Fort Pierce, FL, Thomas Bacon and his wife, Maureen, of Hudson, Charles Bacon and his wife, Cynthia, also of Hudson, and Betsy Carroll and her husband, John, of Clinton, CT, his nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
