Dorothy M Wahl

Dorothy M. (Barlow) Wahl, born in Pawtucket R.I. on February 16, 1927 died on March 31, 2022. She was a resident of Framingham, MA, but had lived most of her life in Pawtucket and Cumberland R. I.  She was the beloved wife of the late Charles H. E. Wahl of Hudson and the daughter of the late Edna and Robert Barlow of Pawtucket, R.I. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Russell W. B. Barlow and Angus R. Barlow, both of Pawtucket R.I. and by a granddaughter, Julie Tuxbury of Sudbury MA.

She is survived by her three children:  Leis A. M. Phinney and her husband W. Sanford Phinney, Jr. of Wales, MA, Janis S. R. Tuxbury and her husband David L. Tuxbury of Sudbury, MA, and Charles R.E. Wahl and his wife Nancy B. Wahl of Bedford, NH.  Dorothy is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Sarah and her husband Bruce Hanlon, Matthew, Megan and her husband Seton Murphy, Katrina, Joshua and his wife Stacey, Andrew, Jonathan and Bree, and her great grandchildren; Grace, Beth, Milah, Burke, Niles, Medora, Sydney and David.

Dorothy was educated in the Pawtucket R.I. school system and earned an Associates Degree from Bryant College. She worked for many years at the Pawtucket R.I. law firm of Lachapelle and Lachapelle before returning to college.  She graduated from Rhode Island College with  Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. She then taught in the Cumberland R.I. school system for many years.

Dorothy enjoyed music and was a member of the Choir at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland R.I. for many years, where she was also a member of the Presbyterian Women's Society.  Her family were all active in various Masonic organizations and she was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls.  After moving to Hudson, she regularly attended the First United Methodist Church of Marlboro and assisted in the music program there.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Christian Women's Club.  Dorothy lived the last several years at Carlyle House in Framingham where she enjoyed many activities including bingo and exercise.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who will remember her for her graciousness, kindness and cheerfulness.  Her family will always remember the wonderful example she set throughout her life, in her Christian faith, in the importance of education, and in working hard to achieve worthwhile goals.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff of the Carlyle House Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kind, attentive, and competent care for Dot during the final years of her life. Services will be private, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, it was Dorothy’s wish that family and friends would plant perennials in her memory.
