Edith G. "Edie" (Bryson) Johnston, 90, of Hudson, formerly of Marlboro and Waltham, died on Sunday, Jan. 11th at Sudbury Pines Extended Care in Sudbury. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late George E. Johnston Jr. who died in Sept. of 2000.
Edie was born and raised in Newton, daughter of the late William and Margaret (Durno) Bryson. She resided in Waltham for many years and was a longtime resident of Marlboro. Prior to Sudbury Pines she lived in Hudson for 8 years. Edie took great pride in the care of her home and raising her children along with her husband George Jr. She later worked at Bartlett's Greenhouses in Sudbury and always cherished the friends and acquaintances she made while there.
Edie was always happiest when she was with her family and especially enjoyed holidays and social gatherings that brought them all together. She looked forward to their yearly family vacations in North Truro on Cape Cod as they shared many treasured memories. She was a loving and devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be truly missed.
She is survived by her son, Michael Johnston and his wife Paula of Oakham; her six daughters, Patricia Branscombe and the late Robert Branscombe of Marlboro, Terry Johnston of Hudson, Kathleen Plante and her husband Robert of Hudson, Edith Chiasson and her husband Kevin of Hudson, Jacqueline MacDonald and her husband Scott of Lancaster, Christine Scanlon and her husband Michael of Lancaster and was predeceased by her son George E. Johnston III in 1985. She is also survived by her 14 loving grandchildren and 14 adoring great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret (Bunty) MacDonald, Dorothy (Dody) Hamill, Edward, William, and Richard Bryson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 15th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Wednesday Jan. 14th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 (www.tighehamilton.com).
