Edward (Larry) Lawrence Gogolin, age 86, passed away on November 20, 2023, surrounded by
family. He lived in Sudbury, Bolton, and most recently Lancaster MA.
Larry was married to Jean K. Gogolin (Westfield, NJ) from 1960 to 1981 and is survived by their
3 children, Pamela (Needham), Brian (Hopkinton) and his wife Carolyn, and Karen (West
Orange, NJ) and her husband John, as well as his 5 grandchildren, Dana and Ivy Gogolin,
Elizabeth and Emily De Jong, and Andrew Gogolin.
In 1984, Larry married Linda Lugin, and settled in Sudbury with her and her 3 children, Shane
Moore (Worcester), Nicole Palmer (Concord), and Michelle Poor (Concord) and her husband
David. Linda died in 2010 of Cancer. He had 8 step grandchildren, Ryan and Adin Moore, Olivia
and Morgan Palmer, and David, Hannah, Riley, and Brady Poor.
Larry’s best friend and significant other for the last 7 years was Mary Jane Leary of Worchester.
Larry was born in Scranton, PA and grew up in Harrisburg, PA, the son of Edward and Janet
Gemmell Gogolin of Harrisburg, PA. He is survived by his sisters, Janet Moscarelli of Medford,
MA and Kathryn Gogolin Ewens of Bryn Mawr, PA.
He graduated from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, PA and Lafayette
College in Easton, PA with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He earned his MS in Engineering
Management from Northeastern University, taking classes at night while working full time with 3
young children.
After graduation, Larry worked at Allied Chemical in Buffalo, NY, Atlas Powder in Wilmington,
DE, and then joined Polaroid Corp in Waltham, MA in 1965 as an engineer and technical
manager. After an early retirement from Polaroid in 1988, he started his own company, Gogolin
& Associates, contracting with companies using web coating as a process.
Larry was active in public service all his life, starting with the Boy Scouts and ROTC in High
School where he was commissioned as a 2 nd lieutenant in the Army but did not serve. He was
Chairman of Polaroid’s United Way in Waltham, served on the Sudbury Board of Health, the
Sudbury Finance Committee, and on the Board of Directors of the Blue Heron Pond Condo
Association in Lancaster.
He was a faithful and long-time parishioner of Peace Lutheran Church of Wayland, MA from
1964-2023, serving on the Church Council, and as Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant
Minister, and member of the choir.
Larry started singing in grade school, and that passion continued all his life as a member of
several choirs, including the Lafayette College Choir, Framingham Choral Society, Concord
Chorus, and most recently the Assabet Valley Mastersingers.
In addition to singing, his interests were many and varied. He was a member of the Sudbury
Minutemen for 15 years and shook hands with Gerald Ford during the Bicentennial Celebrations
in 1976. Larry loved to figure out how things worked and could build and fix just about anything.
That love led to his interest in restoring antique cars, including a 1930 Model A Ford, as well as
two MG TD sports cars, a 1951 and 1953. He proudly drove those cars in local 4 th of July
parades with his children and grandchildren. He was also a model train enthusiast and built a
garden train in his front yard—featuring a waterfall with a functional hand-crafted grist mill and
cog railroad—to the delight of his grandchildren.
Larry was a kind, curious, and unassuming man who left a positive impression on everyone he
met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in his
memory can be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Road, Wayland MA 01778.
