Elzira Conceicao (Pimentel) Homem, 85 of Worcester, formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 8:59pm, at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by her loving family. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of Joao O. Homem Jr., who predeceased her in 2008.
Elzira was born on the Azores Island of São Jorge in Portugal, on January 15, 1933. After finishing her education, she married the love of her life, Joao O. Homem Jr., embarking on a 56-year journey of love and happiness. Soon after being wed they immigrated to Zambia, Angola, Africa, where they lived for 18 years, until political instability forced them to return to the Azores. Eventually they immigrated to the United States and settled in Hudson in 1975.
Elzira’s life was devoted to her family; a loving wife, dedicated mother and caring grandmother, she always made sure her family was well taken care of. She worked two jobs at Hudson Lock and Westridge Healthcare to help support her seven children. True to her Portuguese heritage she enjoyed caring for her home and cooking delicious meals for her family and guests.
Elzira is survived by her seven children, John Lui Homem of Hudson, Maria D. Lima of Clinton, Carlos O. Oliveira of Hudson, Nelia F. Kinsman of Worcester, Alberto Homem of Florida, Paul Homem of Worcester and Raquel Santana of Worcester; nineteen grandchildren, Reinaldo, Talyha, Tatiana, Carlos, Telmo, John, Isiah, Kenny, Selina, Kathryn, Shawn, Christine, Nicole, John, Stephanie, Paul Jr., Christopher, Tony and Joshua, 22 great-grandchildren, a brother and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her Father Domingos Pimentel and Mother Lucinda Das Dores Ferreira and several siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson for interment. Family and Friends are welcome to gather at the home of her granddaughter Tatiana Lima in Pepperell after the procession on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Saint Michael Parish.
