Ermelinda B. (Velho) Chaves, 77, of Hudson, died on Sunday, June 16th at Marlboro Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Jose Chaves who died in 1982.
Ermelinda was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose and Virginia (Batista) Velho. She has been a long time resident of Hudson since moving here from Santa Maria in 1973. She was employed by Hudson Lock Co. for many years until retiring in 2001. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson and enjoyed crocheting in her spare time.
She is survived by her son, Jose V. Chaves and his wife Maria of Hudson; her brother, Artur Batista Velho of Somerville and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose Batista Velho.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Wednesday, June 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
