Ernest E. Beland Sr., 77, of Hudson, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 5th at his residence in Hudson. He was the beloved husband of 51 years to the late Marion F. (Bushey) Beland who died in 2011.
Ernest was born in Clinton, son of the late Alfred and Eva (Rollins) Beland. He was raised in Stow where he attended local schools. He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard and veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army until 1957. He later served in the U.S. Air Force until being honorably discharged in 1962. He was employed as a custodian for many years by Luxtec Corp. of West Boylston until his retirement in 2000 and also volunteered at the National Guard Armory in Worcester.
He is survived by his children, Ernest E. Beland Jr. of Ashburnham, Candis Beland of North Carolina, Kathryn Beland of Hudson, Cynthia Sosnicki of Clinton and was predeceased by his daughter, Michele Steere in 2003. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald Beland of Hudson, Wayne Beland of Texas, Philip Beland of Virginia, Alfred Beland of Hudson and Shirley Mahar of Maine; his 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard, Gordon and Edith Beland and Lucille Chisholm.
A service and celebration of Ernest's life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Aug.17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
