Francis (Frank) P. O’Connell, 80, of Boylston, passed away unexpectedly at home, on Saturday, June 15, 2019. He leaves his beloved wife of 57 years, Louise C. (Carpenito) O’Connell. Frank is also survived by 5 children, Ken O’Connell and his wife Susan, Tom O’Connell and his wife Sue, Jim O’Connell and his wife Debbie, Cheryl Harris and her husband Steve and Sharon O’Connell. He is also survived by 3 siblings, Don O’Connell, Georgia Vorderer and Ellen Wright; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, John O’Connell, Susan O’Connell and William O’Connell.
Frank was born in Boston, MA, on December 13, 1938, one of 7 children of the late William and Elizabeth (Cooper) O’Connell. He was raised in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Brighton High School. After finishing his education, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army National Guard, earning the rank of Sergeant, serving from 1961 until 1967. Frank married the love of his life, Louise C. (Carpenito) O’Connell in 1962 and shortly after settled in Hudson, MA, where they raised their family and resided until relocating to Boylston in 1986. Growing up and throughout his life, Frank was an outstanding athlete, and was highly recruited and scouted as a pitcher by many colleges and major league teams. True to his Boston roots, he was an avid New England Sports fan. He was a passionate Patriots Football fan and a fierce Boston Red Sox supporter. Above all else, Frank loved spending time among his family and was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm on Friday, June 28th at Immaculate Conception Parish, (Lower Level), 11 Prospect St, Marlborough, MA. There will be a gathering from 4pm-7pm at The Hudson Elks, 99 Park St. in Hudson, MA 01749. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with his arrangements.
