Stow, MA
Francis "Frank" R. Milak, 85 of Stow passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness on June 10, 2017.
Frank was born in Bridgewater, MA and spent most of his 85 years living and working in Stow, MA for the town. Franks passion for farming was put to great use working at Pilot Grove Farm, Clemens Orchard, Drechsler Orchard and Shelburne Farm. While employed at C.D. Fletchers Sawmill, Frank milled the timber he used to build his own home. He delighted in sharing the produce he grew on his own farm and crafting Christmas wreaths.
Franks dedication to the town of Stow included time working for the Highway and School Department, as well as the Cemetery Superintendent at Brookside Cemetery where he also served on the Veterans' Graves Committee.
Frank also served 23 years on the Stow Fire Department; one of his favorite stories to share was when the fire whistle blew, he and the other boys would get to leave school and jump on the fire truck as it passed on the way to the emergency.
Frank was also a proud Army Veteran of the Korean War. Serving one year and eighteen days overseas with the 461st Heavy Motor Battalion and another eight years in the Army Reserves.
He was a beloved son, husband, father and brother. He was predeceased by his mother Ann T. Moran and his brother Alfred J. Milak.
Frank is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Jane (Bruen) Milak; his daughter, Theresa Marie Milak and her companion Robert Ko and his sister Frances Queen. Included in Frank's many friends are Nathan Morrison, William Morrison and Matthew Morrison. Frank's outgoing personality will be greatly missed.
A graveside memorial service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2017 in Brookside Cemetery in Stow, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stow Firefighters Association.
