Francis P. Tompkins, 78 of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Framingham Union Hospital after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife Grace (MacPhail) Tompkins.
In addition to his wife, Francis is also survived by his two children, Francis P. Tompkins, III and his wife Sandy of Worcester and Christine M. Tompkins of Hudson. He is also survived by his brother, Leo Tompkins and his sister Virginia Gilfoy as well as his two grandchildren Michael P. Tompkins and Marcos Mendieta. Francis was pre-deceased by his parents Francis and Esther Tompkins as well as his brother Edward Tompkins.
Francis was born in Boston, MA on October 8, 1939 and attended high school in Roxbury. After finishing school, Francis enlisted in the United States Marines and proudly served his nation from 1960 until 1963. Following his return from service, moved to Hudson where he has been a resident for over 50 years. Francis worked for Polaroid as a mechanic before he eventually retired.
Francis was a proud member of the NRA and was a certified gun safety instructor. He also enjoyed the hunting and both fresh water as well as deep sea fishing. He was a true Patriot and U.S. history buff, who loved learning about our Nation’s roots, as well as his own personal genealogy. Frank also enjoyed watching the old westerns and war movies, especially the ones staring his favorite actor, John Wayne. Most of all he will be remembered as being the most honest person you could ever meet and he taught this virtue to his children and the generations that followed.
A calling hour will be held from 9:30 am until 10:30 am on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, MA
