Frank C. Marini II, 76, of Berlin died peacefully at home on December 17th surrounded by his beloved wife Rosemary and his family. Frank and Rosemary celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage this past August with friends and family on Cape Cod. A devoted family man and respected community leader, Frank was born to the late Frank Marini, Sr and Idalina (Custodio) Marini of Hudson, MA and graduated HHS in 1954, a letterman in sports and a proud inductee of the HHS Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife Rosemary (Buteau), his children: Lisa and her husband Anthony Huntington of Hopkinton, MA, Frank and his wife Carla Strom of Houston, TX, Laura J. E. Marini of NY, NY and Linda and her husband Richard Shea of Leominster, MA; five grandchildren - Meaghan, Rick, Sammy, Adam and Audra and one on the way, plus many loving cousins, neices and nephews, great-neices and great-nephews. He is pre-deceased by his siblings: Cleto "Claddy" Peter Marini of Bangor, ME, Doris Grondin of Zephyrhills, FL, and Viola DiPersio of Hudson, MA.
Command Sargeant Major Marini served his country honorably first with the US Marines during the Korean War era then later with the Army National Guard in a dual role as a military technician from 1970 until his retirement in 1995. He became Chief Instructor of the Mass Military Academy specializing in land navigation. While in the Marines, he rode bulls and broncos in charity rodeos raising money for the Navy Relief program. He was decorated over his years of service and was honorably discharged in 1995. He took up his passion for history as a Revolutionary War reenactor after his retirement from the more modern military. He was an active member of the 85th Saintonge Regiment, the Lexington Minutemen and a former Colonel of the Sudbury Militia.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW, AmVets and the American Legion Post 100 serving as a commander for 6 years. While living in Hudson for most of his adult life, he served the Town of Hudson as a member of the Planning Board and on the Finance Committee. Before his illness, his energy knew no bounds and he was on the board of Meadowbrook Village where he and Rosemary moved to in 2002 and was also Vice-President of the Board of their vacation condo in Wells, ME. He was an avid hunter becoming a Maine Guide for a sporting camp in Parkman, ME for several years. Frank supported many wildlife and nature conservancy groups. A big fan of sports, he followed the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.
He loved being involved and touched the lives of so many, his incredible winning attitude carried him throughout his life and he fought his battle with cancer valiantly. But most important to him was his wife Rosemary, his family and his Roman - Italian heritage. He loved spending time with his close and extended family and many friends who will all miss him dearly.
Calling hours at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson are Sunday, December 19th from 5-8pm.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 20th, 2010 at 9 am St. Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA followed by a burial at St. Michael's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to the American Lung Society.
