Fred Joseph Hermanns, 83, retired Air Force Sergeant, a longtime resident of Hudson, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 7th at his residence.

Fred was born in Boston, son of the late Gottfried and Josephine (Sumser) Hermanns. He resided in Newton for a short time in his youth and Falmouth before he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He earned his Bachelor's Degree while in the Air Force. He proudly served for 23 years and was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. Fred served his final years with the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. until he was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1973. He was an active member of the V.F.W in Hudson.

Fred enjoyed a simple life style. He enjoyed talking to his friends at the Victor's 50's Rotary Diner in Hudson every day and reading in his spare time. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Bruins. He was a loyal fan of the former Marlboro Shamrock's semi-professional football team and attended all the games at home in Kelleher Field in Marlboro and also traveled whenever possible to watch the games. Most of all he cherished the times with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sister, Sigrid C. Murphy of Falmouth; his sister-in-law AltaMae Hermanns, wife of the late Egon Hermanns of the State of Washington and was the brother of the late Marlise Wisner of Holliston. He also leaves his nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews.

A graveside service will be held with Military Honors on Friday, Dec. 11th at 11:15 a.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Road, Bourne, MA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of: Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. There are no services at the funeral home and all wishing to attend are encouraged to arrive at the cemetery between 11:00 and 11:10 a.m.
