Frederick W. Horton, Sr.

January 15, 1942 — March 3, 2025

Hudson, MA

Frederick W. Horton Sr., 85, of Hudson, died on Monday, March 3, 2025 at UMASS Memorial Marlborough Hospital. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years LaRayne K. (Johannes) Horton of Hudson, MA.

Frederick was born and grew up in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late Albert and Evelyn (McKenzie) Horton. At the age of 13, Fred along with his parents immigrated to the United States settling in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Soon after, the family moved to Chelmsford, MA where Fred was a 1959 graduate of Chelmsford High School. He moved to Lowell, MA and resided there for 12 years along with his wife LaRayne. They both have resided in Hudson, MA the past 45 years. Fred owned and operated his trucking company, Fred Horton Trucking for many years. In his later years Fred went to work for the Ideal Block Company as a delivery driver for the company until retiring in 2018.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Frederick W. Horton Jr. and his girlfriend Diana Dupuis of Sterling, MA; his 2 grandchildren, Shelby McGinn of Leominster, MA, Shania K. Horton of Clinton, MA; and his 2 great grandchildren, Nash Cassella and Paisley McGinn. He is also survived by his brother Eugene “Leroy” Horton and his wife Cheryl of New Hampshire; his sister Dawna Valhos, wife of the late Alex Valhos of Connecticut and his daughter-in-law Kim Horton, along with his many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Edward Horton in 2011; his brother Albert Horton and sister Joan Pederson.

Fred truly enjoyed his time operating his truck for many years and all the wonderful people he met during this time. He was an avid NASCAR fan and in his younger years spent time as a race car driver until LaRayne had better plans for him in his spare time. His roots of Antigonish, Nova Scotia gave him a great appreciation of the ocean and he owned a fishing boat before he bought his first land vehicle. He loved taking day trips to Newburyport launching his boat for a day of fishing. He would visit other locations especially on the North Shore also but Newburyport was his favorite. He cherished his times with his family, especially later with his grandchildren. The fond memories of a loving husband, father, devoted and loving gramps and of course a loyal brother and friend will be cherished by all who loved and knew him.
