Frederick W. Zinger, 81, of Bolton, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, with his beloved family by his side, after a brief period of declining health. He joins his wife Eleanor F. (Yagi) Zinger, who predeceased him on April 2, 2017.
Fred, the son of the late John W. and Evelyn M. (Rheaume) Zinger, was born in Detroit, Michigan, graduated high school in Ferndale, Michigan and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He later earned his MBA at Stanford University.
The majority of his adult life was spent in Hawaii, where he and his wife raised their family. There Fred and Eleanor together owned and operated a data processing company, Business Economics Company Ltd. When they later moved to Colorado and then to Massachusetts, their many loyal customers followed them, allowing Fred to provide excellent service for over fifty-five years before retiring this past summer.
In his free time in Hawaii, Fred enjoyed sailing, practicing fancy nautical rope work and restoring vintage wooden boats. He was also an avid cosmologist and mathematician.
Fred has lived in Bolton, MA for the past seven years. During this time, he enjoyed volunteering with various nautical organizations, tying beautiful knots, reading about science and getting together with dear friends in his neighborhood. Most of all Fred loved to spend time with his family.
Fred is survived by his three daughters, Sue Lynn Hartnett and her husband Steven, Cherry Lynn Zinger, and Kimber Lynn Drake and her husband Steven; a brother William Charles Zinger, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
