George “Don” Barry, of Hudson, MA passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91, surrounded by his family on Friday, June 4, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marion “Penny” (Carr) Barry and a son Timothy Barry.
Don was born on June 7, 1929 in Cambridge, MA, one of 10 children of the late John Barry and Marie Edna (Mailloux) Barry. He was born in Cambridge and the family later moved to Watertown. He met his wife while she cared as a nurse for his ailing father. They later moved to Hudson, MA, where they resided for the next 50 years. Don served in the Army Air Force during the Korean War and later had a long career in logistics for the cold storage industry, retiring from Hendries in Southboro.
Don was a former member of the Hudson Concord Elks and enjoyed golf and games of all kinds. Don volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Hudson Food Pantry after retirement, before falling ill in 2001.
In addition to his beloved wife, Marion B (Carr) Barry, he is survived by his son Timothy M. Barry and his wife Alison Barry and grandson Carter of Hingham, MA; three brothers, Paul Barry, William Barry and his wife Charlotte Barry, and Robert Barry and his wife Patricia; four sisters, Marie MacDougal, Gloria Mank and her husband Charles, Claire Barry, and Patricia Strangio and her husband Francis; a sister-in-law, Helen Barry and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers John Barry and Ralph Barry.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation hours from 4-7pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to St. Michael Cemetery in Hudson, MA.
