Hudson, MA
George F. "Gumper" Swanson, 82, a long time resident of Hudson, died Saturday, Aug. 20th at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, Belmont Street Campus in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Irene (Brissette) Swanson of Hudson.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late Forrest and Lillian (Wright) Swanson, George was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1947. He was employed as a purchasing agent by Assurance Technologies Corp. of Carlisle for many years until his retirement in 2010. George spent 59 years as a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Worcester Chapter and spent time as the manager of the former Hudson CYO Royal Jades. He spent many years as an active member and goalie with the Hudson Old Timers Hockey League.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Claudia Allshouse and her husband Dwight of Baltimore, MD, Janice Crossman and her husband Bob of Hudson, Gary Swanson and his wife Kama Jayne of West Boylston; his 7 grandchildren, Ken, Jared, Devin and Jeremy Munroe, Elizabeth, Amanda and Isaac Swanson and was predeceased by his grandson Gabriel Swanson. He leaves his three sisters, two brothers; was predeceased by a brother and sister and also leaves his many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749 on Thursday, Aug. 25th at 11:00 a.m. Burial is to be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
