Georgia (Angelo) Roumas

d. August 5, 2011

Hudson, MA
Georgia (Angelo) Roumas, 93, of Hudson, passed away on Friday, August 5th at Leominster Hospital. She was born in Hudson on January 7, 1918 to Catherine and Nicholas Angelo, both whom had emigrated from their native Greece.
Georgia was a lifelong resident of Hudson. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1935 and became a career small businesswomen, for many years operating the Neighborhood Variety Store on Broad Street in Hudson with her father Nicholas, the founder, her brother Christo, and her husband, the late Zenon (Tony) Roumas, eventually becoming proprietor. The store was a landmark on Broad Street for forty years until she and Tony retired and sold the property in 1985. They were active members of the Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Marlboro. Despite her busy life, she found time to learn the art of painting with a number of her friends in the 1970's, and continued to paint for many more years. Words cannot describe her dedication and love for her family, nor can they begin to catalogue the many good things she did in her long life.
She is survived by her son, John Roumas of Leominster and her grandson, Nicholas Roumas of Southboro, by both of whom she will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Saints Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 9 Cashman Street, Marlboro. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Fr. Peter D. Costarakis will conduct the traditional Trisagion Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
