Geraldo A. Sousa, 75, of Berlin, former long time resident of Hudson, died on Friday, Feb. 10th at Marlboro Hospital with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Filomena (Monteiro) Sousa of Berlin.
Geraldo was born in St. Michael, the Azores in Portugal, son of Manuel and Alice (Aguiar) Sousa. He was raised in Santa Maria, the Azores and was proud of his early experiences in the whaling industry as a young adult in the Azores. He and his wife Filomena resided in Hudson from 1979 to 1999 where they raised their children until moving to Berlin in 1999. He was employed as a machinist for many years by the Doherty Tool Co. in Marlboro until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing his harmonica and especially looked forward to his yearly trip back to his home in Santa Maria with his wife.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his seven children, Zulmira Sousa and her husband Rui of Lancaster, Jose Sousa and his wife Nelia of Berlin, Gualdino Sousa and his wife Kathy of Arizona, Ramiro Sousa and his fiance Lorenza Escareno, both of Texas, Pedro Sousa and his wife Tara of New Hampshire, Teresa Lando and her husband Salvatore of Sterling and Linda Yost and her husband Theodore Yost III of Westminster. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren; his brother and many sisters residing in the Fall River area along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 14th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Feb. 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
