Hudson, MA
Glenna (Allen) Karvoski, 93, died Sept. 29 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness.
A lifelong Hudson resident, she was the daughter of the late George and Diana (Martell) Allen. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Karvoski Sr. and her five siblings. She’s survived by her son Ed Karvoski Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Glenna received her nursing license in 1959 from Cushing Hospital in Framingham, where she worked for several years. Most of her nursing career took place at Hudson’s now-closed St. Jude’s Nursing Home.
After a work-related injury, she worked mostly at Hudson banks. In semi-retirement, she became the first greeter at Hudson’s Walmart.
Growing up in Hudson, Glenna attended St. Michael School and married at St. Michael Church. Throughout the 1960s, she organized children’s games for the annual parish bazaar.
Her community service included volunteering as a Cub Scout den leader. Additionally, she volunteered as a nurse for a Girl Scout troop’s overnight camping trips.
Also at St. Michael Parish, Glenna was a longtime member of the Ladies Sodality and served as a Eucharist minister for many years.
Supportive of veterans’ organizations, she belonged to the Hudson AMVETS Post 208 Auxiliary and for several years served as chaplain for the Marlborough-based Disabled American Veterans Chapter 82 Auxiliary.
Up to 2018, she served for 12 years as a board member of the Hudson Council on Aging.
Glenna looked forward to playing bingo weekly at the Hudson-Concord Elks Lodge 959. Likewise, she enjoyed the seafood and, of course, ice cream at Kimball Farm.
She’s a four-time cancer survivor, each time occurred in her 70s and 80s.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glenna’s name to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, or by phone at 1-800-227-2345 or online at cancer.org.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Oct. 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749. Afterward, a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Hudson.
