Hardy H. Smith, 76, of Bolton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16th at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer. He was the beloved husband of the late Thelma L. (Peck) Smith for 54 years who died in Jan. of 2008.
Hardy was born in Concord, son of the late Ralph D. and Mable C. (Tracey) Smith and raised in Bolton where he attended local schools. Hardy and Thelma resided in Northboro after being married in 1954 and resided there until 1978 when they moved to Bolton. He served in the National Guard for several years and enjoyed stock car racing at the former Westboro Speedway. He was a self employed carpenter for many years until his retirement. Hardy especially enjoyed farming and gardening as a hobby in his spare time.
He is survived by his children, Donald Smith and his wife Alice of Northbridge, David Smith and his wife Anita of Framingham and Dennis Smith and his wife Deborah of Petersham. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Smith of Leominster; his grandchildren, Jamie, Shannon, Dennis, Danny, Donna, Diane and Dylan; his great grandchild Julian and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday Feb. 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Bolton. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. (www.tighehamilton.com).
