Helen L. Garceau

Helen L. (Gulliver) Garceau, 86 of Berlin, and formerly of Marlborough, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness Saturday, December 7, 2024. She is pre-deceased by her loving husband Richard W. Garceau. 

Helen was born and raised in Watertown, MA the daughter (and only child) of the late Marion & William (Bill) Gulliver. She graduated from Watertown High School, and worked as a switch board operator at Raytheon after graduation.

From there, Helen transitioned to working at the Wildwood restaurant in Marlborough where she not only became a long time employee (about 30 years) she also trained waitstaff and oversaw dining room operations. She was known as “Miss Elegance” for her polite and pleasant demeanor. She often had repeat customers ask for her when getting seated for dinner. 

In addition, Helen loved to vacation in Aruba, enjoyed playing cards, hosting holiday dinner parties & entertaining family and friends in the resort style backyard pool area. Helen was also a homemaker, and always made sure she had more than enough food on hand in the event her kids brought friends home to stay for dinner. Before long, their friends referred to Mrs. Garceau as another “Mrs. Cunningham” -aka the Happy Days mom!

In addition, Helen is survived by her 3 children, Michelle (Garceau) St. Michael of Berlin, Richard Garceau, Jr. and his husband Thomas Nortz of Centerville, and Kathleen (Garceau) Rhodes and her husband Mark of Berlin; 3 grandchildren Krystle Rowe of Westford, Mark Rhodes, Jr. and Austin Rhodes along with 3 nieces, Cathy, Susan and Nancy Bombard all from Berlin, MA.

 Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial services will be held privately at a later date.
