Helen F. (Tavares) Sokolowski, 86, of Hudson died Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Marlboro Hills Healthcare Center in Marlboro. She was the wife of the late John C. Sokolowski who died in 1999.
Born in Hudson, daughter of the late John and Rose (Veo) Tavares, she was a graduate of the former Worcester Trade School in Worcester. She worked as a cook at Fort Devens for many years until she retired. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson, a member of the Lions Club in Maine and also worked as a Soko volunteer in Maine. Helen and her husband John owned and operated the former Soko's Lounge in Maynard for many years.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Earl, Ralph, Harold, Arthur, Donald, James, Clarence and Charles Tavares and Mae McIveen, Grace Alberi and Hazel Simko.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget's Cemetery in Maynard.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 8:30 to 9:15a.m. prior to the mass at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749.
