Henry J. Gamache, 81, died December 26, 2005 at Marlboro Hospital in Marlboro. He was the Husband of the late Claire (Fluet) Gamache who died in 1978. Born in Fall River, MA, son of the late Louis and Rose (Montplaisir) Gamache. He was a graduate of Prevost H.S. in Fall River class of 1941. He spent his youth in the Somerset and Swansea area. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover N.H. following WWII. As an officer training candidate while in the Marine Corps. He served in Korea from 1952 to 1953 and in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He received many commendations during his career in the military including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal and
Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.
He was employed as a Field Engineer with Raytheon Corp. for 11 years including 3 years in Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1979. He also worked as area Director for the state Emergency Management Agency (civil defense) for Central Mass. Which includes 74 communities were he was responsible for getting cities and towns prepared for natural and man made emergencies. He served in that position until 1991. He was a member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks #959, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Mass. Retired State Municipal Employee's Assn., the Marine Corps Assn. and former member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post of Hudson.
He is survived by his son Paul Gamache and his fiancAC. Kathy Andrle of Nashua, NH, three stepsons Harry Rogers of Monson, John Rogers of Houston, TX and Seth Rogers of Ashland. One sister, Sister Cecile Gamache, a member of the Order of the Presentation of Mary, Nashua, NH. Three brothers Louis Gamache of Florida, Arthur Gamache of Tewsksbury and Roland Gamache of Chelmsford. He was also the brother of the late George Gamache. He is also survived by his former wife Judith (Sappet) Rogers.
His funeral will be held from the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749 Friday, December 30, 2005 with a funeral mass at 9:00am in Saint Michaels Church 21 Manning street Hudson MA. Calling hours will be Thursday, December 29 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson.
