Hugh R. Boyd, 97, of Hudson, died Sunday, November 7th at The Coleman House in Northboro. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie F. (Markham) Boyd in 2004.
Born in Evart, Michigan, son of the late James and Maude (Alexander) Boyd, he moved to Massachusetts in 1942 to work at M.I.T. and the Raytheon Company. He retired in 1978 and continued working as a consultant. He moved to Hudson in 1996.
He had a great interest in education and the spirit of giving back. He served on both local and state school committees and was a member of the State Advisory Committee for Vocational-Technical schools.
Mr. Boyd took a great interest in his family. He enjoyed spending time with them and especially enjoyed planning family reunions. He loved to travel and play golf.
He leaves his three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Valerie Boyd of Hudson, John and Marilyn Boyd of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Hugh and Amy Boyd of Montclair, New Jersey. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Deborah Boisvert and husband David of Hudson, Patricia Cariveau and husband Stephen of Hudson, James Boyd of Stow, Ian and Emma Boyd of Michigan, Megan Boyd of New Jersey and his four great grandchildren, Alexandra and Patrick Boisvert and Zachary and Adam Cariveau. He was the brother of the late Dean and Buel Boyd.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Nov. 11th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
