Irene L. (Renaud) Marcheterre Souza

Irene L. (Renaud) Marcheterre Souza, 92, a lifelong resident of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2021, with her family by her side, after a period of declining heath. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Heber “Herb” Souza.

Irene was born in Hudson, on October 13, 1928, a daughter of the late Gaston and Lucy (Garon) Renaud. Shortly after finishing school she married Albert C. Marcheterre and together they had 3 sons before his untimely passing in 1957. Irene was a dedicated mother raising her three boys. She found love again with her husband Herb Souza and after marrying they had a daughter together.

Throughout the years Irene was always a devoted homemaker as well as a trusted child care provider for other friends and family members for many years. She volunteered as a Cub Scout den mother in the 60’s and always loved to be around her family. She had many hobbies, including sewing, knitting, crocheting, puzzle making and cake decorating. In the summers she enjoyed spending time with her family at their summer home in Rochester, N.H. Irene most recently was a resident of Brookhaven Assisted Living in West Brookfield MA.

Irene is survived by her husband, Heber “Herb” Souza; 3 sons, David Marcheterre and his wife Karen of Hudson, MA, James Marcheterre and his wife Laurie of Hudson, MA and Paul Marcheterre and his wife Carol of Columbia, S.C.; her daughter, Donna Souza of West Brookfield, MA; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 10am-12pm on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA; immediately followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 12pm and procession to Forest Vale Cemetery for Committal Services.
