James J. Gilroy, 83, of Hudson, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 26th. He was born on June 5, 1926 in Scranton, PA to the late James G. Gilroy and Catherine M. (Coyne).
He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Scranton, his Master's from Catholic University and his Doctorate from the University of Maryland. From 1964-1994 he was a professor of microbiology at Boston College. Jim was a parishioner of Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Hudson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Cross) Gilroy of Hudson; his four children, Molly McCoy and husband Alex of Spring, Texas, Meg Amorati and husband Lou of Worcester, Nancy Gilroy of Bedford and Jim Gilroy and wife Donna of Savannah, GA. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Emily, Elyse and Charlotte McCoy, Olivia and Cara Amorati and Hugh Gilroy; his brother, Gene Gilroy and his wife Patty of Laurel, MD and sister-in-law, Dolores, widow of the late Paul Gilroy of New Carrolton, MD.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30th at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1st at Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. He will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
