James E. Gracie, III

January 12, 1929 — March 3, 2018

James E. Gracie, III, 89 of Hudson, passed away after a period of failing health at his home in Hudson, on Saturday, March 3, 2018. He has now been reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Mabel E. (MacEachern) Gracie. He has waited a long time to “have a dance with his bride.”

James was born in Lynn, Ma. He was the son of the late James E. Gracie, II and Virginia L. (Wade), Gracie Sullivan. He was raised in Madawaska, ME.  He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines and proudly served during WWII. After being honorably discharged he returned home where he worked as a Marine Engineer eventually owning and operating his own company, Cryo-Techniques. He moved to Hudson in 1974 to help build the IBM Digital plant in Maynard. Prior to settling in Hudson, he lived in Weymouth and Green Harbor, MA.

James was a member of Saint Michael Parish with his wife Mabel. He also spent time at the Hudson Senior Center. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, he was a long-time member of the Riverside Rod and Gun Club in Hudson.

James is survived by his children, Linda M. Bauer and her husband Charles of Hudson, Susan A. Tormey and her husband James of Abington, MA, Debra J. Cheever and her husband Thomas of Quincy, MA, Michelle M. Erb and her husband Tom of Florida and Marcia E. Oliveto and her husband Robert of New Hampshire, a daughter-in-law Cory Gracie of New Hampshire, a sister, MaryJane Kiley; his 13 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren  and many nieces and nephews and in-laws that he was proud to call his brothers and sisters.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was also predeceased by his son, James E. Gracie, IV and his sister, Joyce Dammann.

Calling hours will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, March 9, 2018, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA. His funeral service and interment will be private.
