Jim Sabourin, whose life's work was the promotion of social justice, died Thursday of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Jim was 45 years old. After graduation from the College of the Holy Cross in 1986, Jim taught math to students in the rainforests of Koula-Moutou, Gabon, Africa, while in the Peace Corps.
At the African-American-Institute in New York City, he continued his work for the education of Africans who would return to their homelands.
He furthered his interest in international affairs by monitoring elections in countries of political unrest such as Moldova, Kazikistan, Bosnia, Albania, Ukraine and Azerbaidjan.
For the past many years, Jim has worked at the Heller School for Social Policy and International Development at Brandeis University, where he was Director of International Admissions and Recruitment in the SID program.
Jim was a strong family man who is beloved by his thirteen nieces and nephews: Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, Emily, Rachel, Victoria, Melissa, Patrick, Matthew, Mark, Brian, Joseph and Paul.
Jim leaves his good friend, Joaquim Drumond of Hudson, MA, his parents, Armand and Judith (Leonard) Sabourin of Hudson, MA, his 90 year old Grandmother, Nellie Sabourin of Northbridge, MA, his sister Anne and her husband Daniel Ferguson of Harvard, MA, his brother Christopher and his wife Eileen McCarthy of Whitinsville, MA, his brother Michael and his wife Ann Kelly of Stow, MA.
Visiting hours at Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home are Tuesday, October 20th, from 3pm to 8pm.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 11:00am at St. Michael Church on Manning Street, Hudson, MA.
