Jang-Tae (John) Kim, 88, of Hudson, MA passed on March 24th, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 63.5 years Won-Sim (Stella) Kim (nee Choi) of Hudson, MA and their two daughters; Young-Jae Kim and husband Stanley Luke of Cambridge, MA and Young-Hyun Kim and husband Kirk Carlson of Westborough, MA. He was a loving grandfather to two grandchildren Isaac Luke and Christine Luke. He leaves behind his three younger brothers; Seok-Tae Kim, Gap-Tae Kim, and Shin-Tae Kim of South Korea along with their wives and nine nephews and nieces.
John was born and raised in Yesan, South Korea, as the first born son of Kim, Jongman and Lee, Soonnam. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Mathematics. John and his wife Stella met in Yesan, where both started teaching at Yesan High School. They were married in 1959 in Seoul, Korea. He taught mathematics for the first part of his career at various high schools and colleges in Seoul and DaeJeun Korea. In 1968 he immigrated to the United States as a graduate student at Duke University in North Carolina. He retired in 2002 as a Quality Control Engineer at Genzyme.
John loved to travel. He loved the ocean, the mountains, and trying new foods. He was an expert and avid Go player. He was a devoted member of St. Antoine Daveluy Parish, the Korean Catholic Church of the Greater Boston area. In that church, he and his wife Stella were baptized in 1986. After retirement, he enjoyed monthly lunches with his close church friends. John was very proud of his grandchildren, even making the long trip out to Seattle to attend his grand daughter’s college graduation last June.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5-7pm and prayer from 7-8pm on Thursday March 30th, 2023 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street Hudson, MA. A mass will be held at 10am on Friday, March 31st, 2023 at St. Antoine Daveluy Parish, 45 Ash Street Newton, MA, followed by a graveside committal service at 1pm at St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery in Hudson, MA.
Friends and family are asked to meet directly at St. Antoine Daveluy Parish on Friday, and will meet directly at St. Michael’s Cemetery following the mass for a 1pm graveside committal service.
